How to open docx, pptx, xlsx files in Linux

You can now able to open Microsoft office 2007 formats (docx, pptx, xlsx) in linux.

After the advent of Microsoft office 2007, most people are saving their files in docx, pptx,xlsx formats.

Previously the Microsoft office 2003 used the doc, ppt, xls to save word, presentation, and spreadsheets.

Now Microsoft office 2007 is using docx,pptx,xlsx formats which are Open XML file formats.(en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Officr_Open_XML)

People using linux feel inconvenient in viewing these files formats.

Here is a solution to view those formats in linux.

OpenOffice.org 3.0 is now capable of opening files created with Microsoft Office 2007 or Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac OS X (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx, .accdb, etc

OpenOffice is available for Windows also(both XP and Vista) and it is more powerful than Microsoft Office.

For Older versions of OpenOffice, you can use this package to open Open XML files in OpenOffice.

or use this command line in the terminal

Restart OpenOffice, and enjoy. You can now open and edit .docx files using OpenOffice.org.

That's only half of the truth

You failed to mention that "opening" means that the formatting is totally messed up and all the functionality (like pie chart creation out of numbers) is lost.
Sharing of a project document with a person using windows and the same document is NOT possible. There is no format-compatibility.

You can open the document but it won't get displayed as it should.

That's my 20cent and this has to be stated because it's part of the truth.
