Touch typing or professional typing is very important if you want to be sucessful in the IT industry and your job involves decent amount of typing. Touch typing, also called professional typing enables one to type much faster than the usual index-finger typing. In this, the typist presses the keys without seeing them on the keyboard using all the fingers - not only the index finger.
It is a little difficult to learn at initial times but later it becomes a charm and helps a lot 
Anyway, that's applicable to any new thing humans learn.
